AdaNet is the result of several years of providing information about Ada, Ohio and Hardin County on the web. The Village of Ada page was first introduced in June 1996 with a brief history of the town and various links of interest. This information is still available. But, as a way to better serve the needs of Hardin County and Ada, AdaNet was created to host a single site where interested web searchers can find helpful and useful information about the various organizations and institutions that make Hardin County a great place to work and live. AdaNet offers a place for business organizations and institutions in Hardin County to provide information to the community, customers and other interested parties.

Local Facts

Ada,Ohio was founded in 1853 as Johnstown. S. M. Johnson was a founding father who brought the first industry to the area. After it was discovered that a town near Columbus was already called Johnstown a post office department official in Washington, General Thomas Kilby Smith, renamed the village Ada for his favorite sister. Ada is a rural northwestern Ohio village located in Hardin County. The population is about 4,000. Ada is the home Wilson, the maker of the Official Football of the NFL since 1941. Ada has held the designation of Tree City USA since 1981. This program is responsible for the planting, maintenance and preservation of trees within the community. In 1998, the Ada Railroad Depot was added to the National Register of Historic Sites. Since 1913, Ada has hosted the annual Farmers and Merchants Picnic in War Memorial Park in August. The event compares to a one-day county fair and is sponsored by the farmers and merchants of Ada. Every September Ada also features the Harvest and Herb Festival, a craft show with food, a parade and downtown displays. It is held each fall as a celebration of the end of the harvest season. Every October Ada hosts Ohio Northern University's Homecoming festivities with a parade featuring student-made floats along with ONU's homecoming football game.
