Hardin County History - Dunkirk


Dunkirk was first platted on April 9, 1852. The town was named Dunkirk by Hugh D. Miller after Dunkirk, N.Y., and it signifies "The City of Churches". The first train ran through town in April 1864 from the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railway. The town was incorporated on September 4, 1867 with about 350 inhabitants.
