Hardin County History - Mt. Victory, Ohio

Mt. Victory was incorporated in 1879. The area was first surveyed and laid out by R.D. Miller for Ezra Dille in 1851. In the years following there was a dispute as to whether a town should be located close to Ridgeway. Bids for control were seen between Dille and a man named Samuel McCollough who had laid out Ridgeway and wanted to turn the town into pasture land. When Dille won the bidding for the area, he was heard to say "Victory! Victory!". Thus, from that point the area was known as Mount Victory.
