The Great Pyrenees is also called the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. This breed of dog is enormous, yet very elegant. It may have badger type markings, from grey to pale yellow. It is most often all white with black eye rims. Its course coat allows it to withstand the severest of climates. It may take three or four years for this breed to reach full maturity. France is its country of origin, dating back to 2000 B.C.
The Pyrenees stands 26-32 in. (65-81 cm) in height and may weigh from 90 to 125 lbs. (41-57 kg). They are a very loyal dog and love children. They also tend to be roamers, so good fencing is a must.
