There are two Miniatures Schnauzers that call Husker Haven home. Abby is a three year old female, black, and Muggsy is one of her puppies, he is also black. The Miniature Schnauzer originated in Germany in the 1400's. It's original bred as a farm dog for catching rats and such. All three sizes of Schnauzers (Giant, Standard and Miniature), all have the same general apperance - bushy eyebrows, mustache, and beard. They are all three nearly square in their profile. The miniature version of the schnauzer was thought to have been developed by crossing the Standard size with an Affenpinscher. The coat of the Schnauzer must be stripped at least twice a year. This is a non-shedding breed, so they must be groomed regularly to remove the dead hairs. It is a very lively and very friendly little dog.
