Lima Police Bike Team
The Lima Police Department Bike Team has been in existence since 1994 when it began with two officers receiving training through the Dayton Police Department. The Team now consists of 31 sworn members of the Lima Police Department including those that are Lieutenants, Sergeants, Patrol Officers and Detectives. Two members of the Team are certified instructors through the International Police Mountain Bike Association and have trained and certified many of the current members.
The bikes are used as part of shift assignments as well as special events. While being used as part of shift assignments, Officers will patrol their assigned sectors, handle calls and make traffic stops and arrests. Due to the ability to approach areas undetected, many dangerous felons have been removed from the street by bike officers. With updated equipment, officers are able to ride various times of the day and night as well as nearly year round. This also allows them to be more accessible to the public while they ride. Bike officers have been used in many special events including the yearly Star Spangled Spectacular, the recent Presidential candidate visits, neighborhood association functions and receive other requests for their use throughout the year.
