D.A.R.E.

D.A.R.E.

The mission of the Lima Police Department D.A.R.E. Unit is to offer quality drug and violence free education to the youth of Lima, along with quality reinforcement of D.A.R.E. in the community, through cooperative efforts of the Lima Police Department, the Lima Police D.A.R.E. Boosters, schools, and parents.

Since D.A.R.E. began, the curriculum has been revised and expanded, with the instructional philosophy remaining the same: D.A.R.E. doesn't lecture kids by saying drugs are bad, but provides students with credible instructors and the tools they need to understand and resist the substantial societal and peer pressures that leads to drug abuse, violence, and gangs.

D.A.R.E. in Lima

The Lima Police Department is continuing to work diligently in the Lima City and Parochial Schools with the D.A.R.E. program. The core level of D.A.R.E. is taught at the 5th grade level, with all students receiving the training. All 7th grade Lima City Schools students go through Middle School D.A.R.E., which is a reinforcement to the 5th grade core level. The Middle School curriculum has just been updated in the 98-99 school year. An elective class at Lima Senior High School is also going through a reinforced high school D.A.R.E.

During the summer, the Lima Police Department does a summer Pre-D.A.R.E. Program, which is designed for students entering grades 1-3 for the upcoming school year. Registration for the summer Pre-D.A.R.E. will be sent home with Lima City and Parochial students in May for the upcoming summer. For students that don't attend a Lima City or Parochial school, registration packets can be picked up in the lobby of the Lima Police Department. There is no charge for the summer Pre-D.A.R.E. training. Classes are instructed by a Lima Police Officer, a Lima City School teacher, and adult volunteer and selected youth counselors (middle school students).

The Lima Police Department D.A.R.E. is committed to helping children avoid the dangers of drugs, and to attain their goals and dreams, without the pain and devastation associated with drug abuse.
